BLACK COLLAGISTS WEDNESDAY: JESSE L. FREEMAN

CURATED BY TERI HENDERSON

In his own words:

“I started creating collages seven years ago using materials that others had discarded. Initially, it was necessitated by my economic situation, but came to appreciate the challenge of limitation, and is something most African American art forms have derived from.. making something out of nothing. Collage itself is something on top of something…that is made into an aesthetic process of contextualization. It attracted me because with that…I could say anything.”
